It took me a couple months to get around to reading it, but this is a fascinating blog post. I especially agree with this passage:
I always attend films with one or more “mental dials” turned down. I do this in order to be able to enjoy modern movies without spoiling them by noticing every flaw. Indeed, with some flicks I can (and have to) crank my mental age and IQ down around five. THE FIFTH ELEMENT is an example of a movie that I quite enjoyed (!) but only after performing that intentional self-lobotomy and leaving all critical faculties (except love of color and music and fun) at home.
I did not have to do any of that with INCEPTION. For the first time since GATTACA, I went to see a film as an adult, and felt that adults had proudly written directed and made it… for me.
As with all of his posts, this one goes all over the universe — but the whole thing is worth reading!
I never liked Morning Joe because of the host’s ghoulish glee at the use of torture and his hypocritical hatred of all the things that make me think that the USA doesn’t totally suck yet. Now I guess I’ll have to not watch his crappy show even harder! [fixed link from earlier post]
Check out Erykah Badu’s new video, “Window Seat”. Not sure I agree with the mosaic blur, kind of took me out of the moment — reminded me that I was watching a video. She is certainly brave to film a video like that!
I just can’t put into words how troubling this information is. Worse, I believe there are powerful factions in this country intent on increasing the gap between rich and poor. I hope for an end to suffering for all sentient beings.
Seventy years later, and it’s still too expensive to get sick in this country. I really hope our fearful leaders in WADC get their collective heads out of their asses and give us an alternative to the Health Insurance Cartel. As it stands now their progress looks more like re-arranging deck chairs on a cliché. The Democratic Party will never again have as much power as they do now, and yet they can’t legislate themselves out of a spiderweb.
The Man in Black as Killer Whale: Weird Parallels to 'Lost' in the Real World
I was watching a news story tonight about the Orca Tillicum who killed his third trainer at Sea World last week. Common themes can be seen in both stories:
Isolation/Imprisonment, leading to
Naked Aggression as a pastime
Then of course there’s the color scheme…
Of course, aspies like me will most likely have the more “meta” thought that both are involved in entertainment produced for mass audiences. We saw that the island is underwater in the ‘sideways’ universe in the season premiere… All circumstantial evidence, to be sure, but compelling!
Sometimes I despair for the dearth of brainpower apparent in our society. Seriously, am I the only one who reads and comprehends simple stuff like this?
Warning: if you read the linked comment section you may feel compelled to re-enact Jay Leno’s infamous ‘Jaywalking’ segment armed with a semi-automatic for the losers. The consolation prize? Removal from the gene pool!
A detailed review, most of which lines up with my experience so far. The only thing I’ve noticed that Soulskill left out in his review is some occasional audio glitches. I’m so glad they got rid of the inventory system from ME1!
The internet is inscrutable sometimes. What is the significance of the number 1099689, and why is associated with failure? Also, why is every single post on Thereifixedit.com tagged with the mysterious number? Don’t tell me to google it, it doesn’t work.
